*cough* down here, there's a whole lot of old classics, vintage gems, timeless viewing pleasures, back before the super flashy special effects, when the acting sold it hand in hand with the story.

Discuss the old movies that only true connoisseurs haven't forgotten and still appreciate.

I know this isn't terribly old or particularly forgotten, but have any of the rest of you seen Airplane!...(what the... where should I put the question mark?)...?

Apparently, it was from this that all modern comedy formulas were born. Plus, the opening scene, with the plane tail fin and the Jaws music... was awesome. The Film Reel Archives Grin

Bah! You Americans, over here it's called Flying High, and it is where all modern comedy originated.

Any comedian or comedic filmmaker worth his weird dress sense knows of it and/or The Marx Brothers. Now they are the absolute original comedians, you don't get much funnier any further back.

Heheheh, yeah, you just keep thinking that, definitely not the greatest old movie in my book. For it's genre, I guess it is, but not in the old movie genre as a whole.

Well i guess i haven't seen that many movies. I can't afford to see them at theatres (i've only seen about ten in that fashion, excluding those shown in museums and such). Well i guess i could afford to but it's wasting money really since most are shown on tv a few years later. Anyway most films tend to be lame these days imo... Well i've seen a decent amount of older films. Just a few weeks ago i saw Support Your Local Gunfighter for instance. Good film. Oh and i saw Back to the Future a few months ago. Good films.

That post really belongs in the "Now Showing" thread, although I will say that Coraline, Corpse Bride, Nightmare Before Christmas, all incredible pieces that explore the *blahblahblah constant drone about the subtle messages told in each of the movies*.

However even all three of them in one night pale in comparison to "X-Mess Detritus" by *The Dark Genius Himself* Voltaire.
